US #10½ (6.5 mm) straight needles (14”/36 cm)
or same size circular needle (24”/60 cm)
For edging:
US #J or K (6 or 6.5 mm) crochet hook

11 sts = 4”/10 cm in stockinette st
11 sts and 20 rows = 4”/10 cm in garter st

*Note. This pattern may be worked in lighter weight yarn (worsted medium-weight or light-weight yarn) using appropriate needles. The size of each square will be smaller, and you will make a smaller blanket. Total amount of lighter weight yarn you will need is approximately 30-32 oz/850-900 g.
