Instructions

The purse is composed of 2 identical pieces each worked separately from side to side and then joined together.

Work each piece as follows.
Ch 37 (multiple: 2 + 1) with smaller size hook (G).
Row 1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in each single ch, work last hdc in top of turning-chain row, ch 3, turn.
Row 2: hdc in 2nd hdc, *ch 1, skip next hdc, hdc in next hdc, rep from * to end of row (work last hdc in top of turning-chain of previous row), ch 3, turn.
Row 3: hdc in 1st hdc, *ch 1, hdc in next hdc, rep from * to end of row (work last hdc in top of turning-chain of previous row), ch 3, turn.
Repeat row 3 on each next row until piece is square-shaped and work last row as instructed below.
Last row: hdc in 2nd hdc, hdc in each next hdc across.
Fasten off.
Finishing
Join both pieces using the larger hook (H) and holding 2 strands of yarn: insert the hook through edge sts of both pieces at the same time and work sc in each pair of such edge sts. Start at either top edge and end at the opposite edge.
Work edge at each piece top separately in the same way (sc in each edge st around) with the larger hook and 2 strands of yarn.
Sew a button and chain a corresponding loop (with 1 or 2 strands of yarn) for it.
Make 2 twisted cords approximately 20”/50 cm long or as long as you prefer (here is one way to make a twisted cord). Draw the cords through respective spaces at either piece, make knots and trim the yarn ends.

Abbreviations
ch: chain
